The Statue of Unity located in Gujarat was first inaugurated in 2004, the majority of people thought it was simply an artifact. However, the prime minister Narendra Modi had a bigger idea and bigger plans. He wanted the country to be an international hub for tourism that would draw people all ages.
In the end, over 8 million people have been to this Statue of Unity near Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat.
Today Prime Minister Modi has announced the dedication of two additional tourist attraction -the Maze (labyrinth) Garden and Miyawaki Forest — at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia.
The garden covers three acres and has a the pathway stretching to 2,100 meters This is the largest Maze Garden in the country and was constructed within just eight months. The Maze Garden located in Kevadia was designed in the form of a “Yantra,” which is believed to radiate positive energy. The primary reason for selecting this layout was to achieve the appearance of symmetry, while also creating an intricate system of pathways.
A journey through the tangled streets of this park will be an exercise for tourists minds, bodies and senses. It will also give the feeling of victory over obstacles. This activity will also give them the sense of adventure.
Around 180,000 saplings have been planted in the vicinity of this Maze Garden. They include Orange Gemin, Madhu Kamini, Glory Bovar and Mehndi. The area was initially used as a dump site for garbage and has since been transformed into a lush landscape.
The land has not just enhanced the beauty of the area but it has also contributed to the creation of an ecological system where butterflies, birds and honeybees flourish.

It is believed that the Miyawaki Forest will be another tourist attraction. The forest is named in honor of Japanese Botanist, ecologist and botanist Dr. Akira Mishawaki who devised a method to plant saplings from various species in close proximity to one another and then grow into an urban forest that was dense.
The development of plants is 10 times more rapid using this method, and consequently, the forest becomes 30 times more dense. By using the Miyawaki method the forest can be established within two to three years, whereas it takes between 20 and 30 years using the conventional method.
Miyawaki Forest will be comprised of an Native Floral Garden; Timber Garden; Fruit Garden; Medicinal Garden Then there is a Miyawaki part of mixed plants; Digital Orientation Centre.
The goal of creating these tourist attractions was to offer visitors with a complete experience when they visit rather than a one-dimensional experience. The close ties of these locations with nature highlights the emphasis on the environment, and demonstrates the importance it holds to it in Indian culture. One example would be Maze Garden. Maze Garden whose design has been influenced by Indian tradition.
Other important tourist destinations near the Statue of Unity include Tent CCity-themedparks, such as Arogya Van (Herbal Garden), Butterfly Garden, Cactus Garden, Vishwa Van, The Valley of Flowers (Bharat Van), Unity Glow Garden, Children’s Nutrition Park, Jungle Safari (state-of-art zoological park) and many more.
Although the flow of tourists were affected by the pandemic Covid-19 in 2020, it has picked up after the park was opened to the public in the month of October.
